Derbi Racing make official presentation in Barcelona

The Caja Madrid Derbi Racing team chose the eve of the first oficial tests of the 2004 preseason to officially unveil their 125cc World Championship line-up at the spectacular Fundación Miró museum in Barcelona. Director General Giampiero Sacchi joined the press and guests on a tour of the famous art museum, named after the legendary artist Joan Miro, before outlining his team's objectives for the season.

"This team characterises the stability we have as a group, which is the message we want to send out to our young fans," commented Sacchi. "Now DRD, where the racing bikes are built, is a serious factory with the right facilities. It is difficult to explain but before we had the chassis made in England, the engine somewhere else and now it is all done here. That has really transformed us.

"I would say the most important change, in terms of personnel, is the incorporation of Luigi Dall'Igna, a man with great experience and many victories already under his belt. That gives us security and peace of mind from a technical point of view. We can't expect miracles in the first few months but we are sure that with him we are on the right track and have the technical stability that we were so lacking in the past.

"We are a big team and it is obvious that we are in this World Championship to try and win it. Obviously that is what all our rivals will be aiming for as well but it is certainly our goal."
