New look for Team LCR

250cc World Championship contender Randy De Puniet has a new look for the 2004 season, with Team LCR renewing their collaboration with main sponsors Safilo Group but opting to fly the flag of the ‘Carrera' brand of eyewear and sunglasses. The move sees the team switch from their striking yellow and black colours to an equally distinctive red, with the ‘Carrera' logo emblazoned down the side in silver or gold. De Puniet's 125cc team-mates in the squad run by former racer Lucio Cecchinello are Roberto Locatelli and Mattia Pasini, and they will also sport the new paint job when official preseason testing gets underway this week at Barcelona.

"Until a few moths ago everybody called me ‘The Grandpa of the 125 class', but now they have to call me ‘the youngest team manager' of the World Championship," laughed Cecchinello, who retired at the final round of the 2003 season at Valencia. "Joking aside, I am happy for the good results I got in the last 10 years and for the great emotions I achieved thanks to this exciting sport! I am also glad for the team that I built because it was a dream that became reality thanks to the will and the effort of professional collaborators and great riders.

"I would like to give special thanks to Nobby Ueda, who was very important for the start-up of the team, to Alex De Angelis and Casey Stoner who rode with me in the 125cc class demonstrating their great potential and finally to Randy De Puniet who realized my dream to be competitive in the 250cc class as well. Now my main objective is to improve the quality of my team, to improve the good results we got in the past and, especially, to keep on launching young talent - Mattia will be the next one without any doubt!"
