Seedorf Racing riders in control as teams pack up at Catalunya

The official 125cc preseason test at the Circuit de Catalunya ended on Wednesday lunchtime in positive fashion for the Seedorf Racing team, who saw Alvaro Bautista top the time sheets on his Aprilia just as his team-mate Hector Barbera had done on the previous day. Bautista's quickest time of 1'50.922 was over a second inside Barbera's previous best, and was a commanding 0.704 seconds quicker than today's second quickest rider Fabrizio Lai, who has enjoyed an encouraging first official test with Gilera. Honda rider Andrea Dovizioso was third fastest ahead of Barbera, who slipped to fourth despite improving his time from the first day.

Former World Champion Roberto Locatelli continued his good preseason form on his return to Aprilia with the fifth fastest time, closely followed by fellow veteran Youichi Ui, also riding an Aprilia. French teenager Mike Di Meglio was again impressive, ending the session with the seventh quickest lap after leading the time sheets for a long spell yesterday. Di Meglio's boss and team-mate Gino Borsoi was ninth behind fellow Italian Andrea Ballerini, with Spaniard Pablo Nieto completing the top ten.

There were several crashes on Wednesday as riders pushed to improve their times and speed up development of their machines ahead of the first race of the season at Welkom, South Africa, on April 18th. Two notable fallers were Gabor Talmacsi, who emerged unscathed despite making a mess of his Malaguti, and Swiss youngster Thomas Luthi, who broke his toe after dropping his Honda. Mirko Giansanti was also a visitor to the Clinica Mobile today after breaking a finger in a crash on Tuesday.

The 125cc riders now make way for their 250cc counterparts at Catalunya and move on to Jerez, where they will begin the second and final official preseason test on Saturday.
