Speed queen Katja back in MotoGP

Former Grand Prix rider Katja Poensgen was back in the MotoGP paddock last weekend on her first assignment for German television channel RTL, after signing with them to work as a commentator during the 2004 season.

The 27 year old, who became the first woman to score points in the 250cc World Championship at Mugello in 2001, became the first woman ever to ride a MotoGP machine at the Circuit de Catalunya, completing two laps on board the Suzuki GSV-R at the end of the MotoGP Official Test.

"It was so cool," said Katja afterwards. "They fitted me with a microphone in my helmet so that I could talk while I was riding, but I just couldn't speak. Through the gears the acceleration is amazing, and on the straight… wow!

"Even though I was only in fifth gear, with sixth gear still to go, it was fast enough. The only problem is that two laps just weren't long enough for me."
