Pedrosa fastest of the Honda riders this afternoon

Dani Pedrosa today clocked the best timed during tests for the official Honda teams of the 250cc World Championship that have been taking place since Thursday at Valencia. The Catalan recorded a 1.36.4 and completed 73 laps.

The reigning 125cc World Champ seems to have put his serious ankle injury behind him and today returned to demonstrate that he is at the level of his fellow Honda riders and ready to start the 2004 season.

Toni Elías took the next best time of the day exactly a second away from Pedrosa, and a tenth in front of his Italian team-mate, Roberto Rolfo. Hiroshi Aoyama, who yesterday was quickest, this afternoon rounded off the timing table.

The four Honda riders have now finished their pre-season tests and are now preparing to travel to the first Grand Prix of the year that takes place at the Welkom circuit in South Africa on 18th April.

For their part the Aprilia boys also closed their testing session at Mugello today. The riders of Team Repsol Aspar, Sebastián Porto and Fonsi Nieto, bettered their time of yesterday and the Argentine circulated below the official lap record. In the 125cc category Pablo Nieto also went faster at the picturesque Italian circuit.

Friday times:

1.- Dani Pedrosa Honda 1.36.4 73 Laps
2.- Toni Elías Honda 1.37.4 57 Laps
3.- Roberto Rolfo Honda 1.37.5 67 Laps
4.- Hiroshi Aoyama Honda 1.37.7 55 Laps.
