Derbi scare after fire drama

The Derbi Racing Team suffered a major scare just days ahead of the new season when one of their trucks caught fire during the journey up to Barcelona after the 125cc tests at Jerez last week.

The fire is thought to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in the cabin of the truck, which quickly converted into a blazing inferno which the driver managed to escape as he was driving through the southern Spanish town of Córdoba.

Fortunately for the 125cc World Championship team the truck was abandoned just a couple of kilometres from a fire station and the blaze was brought under control before it reached the trailer containing all four bikes with which Jorge Lorenzo and Angel Rodriguez will be aiming for glory in 2004.
