De Angelis ready for his new adventure

After an intensive winter testing schedule adapting to the new RSW250, Aprilia Racing rider Alex de Angelis can't wait for the start of the 250cc World Championship this Sunday. The quarter-litre rookie is confident of following in the footsteps of San Marino compatriot Manuel Poggiali and making a big impression in the class at the first attempt after a positive winter testing schedule.

"I have spent a lot of the winter getting used to the 250 - the bike is very fast, it reacts so quickly and it's a joy to ride," commented De Angelis, who lapped in record time at Aprilia's final preseason test at Mugello last weekend.

"I didn't expect so be so fast at Mugello but it seems things are coming together and that has made me very optimistic for the race here in Welkom. I have worked very hard with my chief engineer Giovanni Sada and even before going out on the track today we already had a lot of set-up work done for this race.

"I will get a better idea of my chances for the race as the weekend goes on but right now I think we can finish in the top six, which will be a great start."
