De Angelis delighted with 250 debut

Amongst the furore surrounding Dani Pedrosa's brilliant 250cc debut last Sunday, which ended with victory for the young Spaniard at the Africa's Grand Prix, another sparkling rookie performance went almost unnoticed.

Alex De Angelis, who finished second to Pedrosa in the 125cc World Championship last season, took a highly meritable fifth place on his first appearance as a quarter-litre factory Aprilia rider after outwitting experienced Honda pair Roby Rolfo and Alex Debon on the final few laps.

"I am very happy," commented the San Marino youngster. "That was a very satisfactory result for my first 250 race. I had a problem with the front end - it was a combination of the tyre and the suspension - which made it very difficult to push the bike when it was leaned right over. Anyway, it was an enjoyable race and a positive debut for me and now I am very optimistic for the next round in Jerez next week".
