Gibernau fixed on title goal

Sete Gibernau insists he is still amongst the favourites to lift the MotoGP World Championship title in 2004 despite his futile attempts to keep pace with rampant Italian duo Valentino Rossi and Max Biaggi at Welkom last week. The Spanish rider, who finished runner-up to Rossi in the series last season, says patience is the key to ultimate glory and remains confident that his time will come before the end of the season.

"It was a very fast race and we already knew in qualifying that we didn't have the necessary rhythm to win it," reflected Gibernau, who clinched the final podium position in a comfortable third place. "But it's no problem – our objective this season was to fight for the podium at the races where perhaps we don't have the opportunity to win and to go for victories when we know we have the bike set-up properly to do it."

"In South Africa I started the race fighting to win but by half-distance they got away, they were quicker than me, but until we get the new chassis sorted… hopefully that will be in Jerez and we will be able to set the bike up to win."
