Relive the Rossi and Biaggi battle as they saw it

It is now almost a week since the epic battle of wits between two of the greatest Grand Prix racers of all time which took place at the first round of the 2004 MotoGP World Championship at Welkom. However, Valentino Rossi's historic victory will live long in the memory, as will the challenge put up by his greatest rival, fellow Italian Max Biaggi.

Former 250cc World Champion Biaggi, who has finished runner-up in the premier-class on three occasions – once to Mick Doohan and twice to Rossi, chased his compatriot from start to finish, hounding him with a series of daring overtaking manoeuvres and doing his level best to make his own escape.

Rossi, meanwhile, was forced to the limit of his riding potential as he first hung on to his lead and then had to recover it on several occasions, ducking inside and outside of his fiercest rival without a hint of foul play on either side.

It was a demonstration of top class riding that will not be forgotten by those lucky enough to witness it and surely by the riders themselves, with Rossi describing his performance as ‘the best race of my life' and Biaggi admitting it took two days for the adrenaline to subside.

Get a feel for what they experienced with our exclusive onboard highlights of the climax to the MotoGP the head-to-head between Valentino Rossi and Max Biaggi.
