Kagayama takes emotional BSB win

MotoGP wildcard regular Yukio Kagayama and Rizla Suzuki team-mate John Reynolds won a race each to share in the glory at the third round of the British Superbike Championship at Snetterton on Sunday.

Reynolds finished second in the first race and then won the second to extend his championship lead over Honda's Michael Rutter to 10-points, but it was Kagayama who won the hearts of the 20,000-plus strong crowd as they cheered him to victory in the first race of the day, vanquishing the memories of the horrific accident at Cadwell Park that nearly cost him his career last year.

"At last I win a race and I am so, so happy," said Kagayama afterwards. "I needed to win a race and like John-san, I owe everything to my team, my family. My technicians work so hard this weekend and provide me with a perfect Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 to win my first race of the season. Without my technician's hard work, winning would not be possible.

"Thank you to my whole British family for today, my win was for you all. For my team members, for Paul Denning and his family support, for my fans who believed in me during my recovery, and for my new daughter Nana in Japan. Oulton Park is a favourite circuit of mine and last time there I win. I hope to do the same next week."

The fourth round of the British Superbike Championship is at Oulton Park in Cheshire next weekend, with racing taking place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 3rd.
