Dall'Igna hoping to propel Derbi

After more than fifteen years working as a race engineer and technical director for Aprilia, Italian engineer Gigi Dall'Igna has this season moved to the 125cc Derbi/Gilera Racing team to help boost the Spanish and Italian factory efforts in the category. Dall'Igna worked as the head of the Aprilia MotoGP RS Cube project, and also within the 250cc structure for many years, yet this latest move represents a new challenge for the highly-respected technician.

"Basically the main job involves managing and organising the headquarters in Barcelona - setting it up and creating a technical base there with an engine test room," explained Dall'Igna, the latest man to try and fill the void left by Harald Bartol's departure to KTM. "The aim is to be able to develop the bike more when we are in Barcelona. Then when I am at the track, I will act as a coordinator and organiser of the chief mechanics, both from Derbi and Gilera."

"I think the squad is very well organised as regards with the effort at the track, however I feel that the structure and the people that we have at our disposition in Barcelona at the moment need to understand a little more what we need when we are at the track. That's why we here though, to work on the structuring a little more."

"It'll be a different experience to what I'm used to in the paddock, but that won't bother me at all. The future is certainly very bright there's lots to come.

"We're talking a lot about it, of course we are going to do our best this year to get good results, but I came here because I felt that there was a chance to have a long, and successful future here."
