Elías hoping for Jerez repeat

Toni Elías arrived at Jerez today with memories of his famous victory here one year ago still fresh in the memory. The Spaniard rode against the odds to take the chequered flag last season, overcoming a broken thumb and major set-up problems to punish his 250cc rivals with a display fuelled by pure adrenalin. The Honda rider says that he will be looking to turn in a similar performance this weekend as he continues to adapt the new RSW to his riding style.

"I feel in good shape and in high spirits," commented Elías. "I can't wait for the first session to get underway. Obviously I have great memories of the track and riding in front of your home crowd is always a major bonus.

"After the first race of the season in South Africa we have to work on the set-up of the bike so that I can ride it more comfortably. There isn't much time to work on it during qualifying but we will try and make the most of what we have.

"Jerez is a special race for all of us – but especially for the Spaniards. Firstly because you're racing at home, secondly because it is a fantastic racetrack and thirdly because the atmosphere here is like nowhere else. All these things put together make it one of the best Grand Prix of the season.

"I won't forget last year's race for the rest of my life – it was extraordinary. I wasn't in a good physical condition because I crashed in Welkom and they had to operate on my hand, but for some reason I started to feel good halfway through the race and I started overtaking people – eventually winning.

"It was incredible. Hopefully this year I can win again. It won't be easy but I will give everything from my side to give the fans something to cheer about again."
