Double joy for Seedorf

Clarence Seedorf enjoyed a double celebration on Sunday, helping AC Milan to the Italian football league title whilst his latest 125cc World Championship signing, Héctor Barberá, sealed his first podium finish of the season in his home race at Jerez. It was the Seedorf Racing team's first top three finish since they began their Grand Prix adventure at the start of last season and it provided the perfect tonic for the Dutch international footballer, who guided his team to a 1-0 victory away at Roma to seal the title.

A first minute goal from Andrei Shevchenko proved enough for the ‘Rossoneri', although they had to withstand a storm of missiles and fireworks from the Roma fans in the second half. Meanwhile, Barberá had to pick his way through a storm of an entirely different kind, guiding his Aprilia home despite torrential rain and a treacherous track which he ran off on two occasions.

"I got a decent start and saw that Stoner was going really strong," commented the youngster. "I tried to chase him but it was impossible, he was going really fast and I would have risked crashing if I pushed that hard. I ran off track when I was in second place and dropped back to sixth, only to run off again when I got back up to second on the last lap.

"In any case I am really happy with third place, especially for Clarence Seedorf because he has shown a lot of faith in me and it's great that he can celebrate our first podium on the day he has won the title with Milan. I would like to dedicate the podium to the whole team though – the mechanics, sponsors… everybody. Also the thousands of fans who turned out despite the weather."
