Xaus frustrated by first home race

Ruben Xaus admitted he was left frustrated by his first appearance on home soil in the MotoGP class after crashing out of the Gran Premio Marlboro de España on the second lap. It was a bitter end to an otherwise positive weekend for Xaus, who had qualified as the highest Ducati and was running eighth when he was forced wide by his former World Superbike team-mate Troy Bayliss.

The weather was crazy this weekend and Im a bit frustrated, commented Xaus. Like Welkom, Im convinced I could have had a better race and Im leaving again without collecting a single point.

Im comfortable riding in the wet and I started very well, full of motivation as usual and even more so with the incredible fans, who stuck by us despite the rain.

I was eighth when Bayliss overtook me and we touched. He came through on the inside, and so as not to get hit I had to run wide, which in the wet is a bit delicate. I crashed and was disappointed I had this conflict with my ex team-mate. I wanted to get back in the race but the clutch lever broke and I had to retire.

Its a real shame because I feel I could have finished well, but I have to look on the positive side and concentrate on the French Grand Prix next week.
