Barros glad to be back on podium

Alex Barros said he was glad to be back on the podium after taking third place in the rain soaked race at Jerez last Sunday, his first top three finish since Le Mans last season. It was also the Brazilian's first podium for Honda since returning after a disappointing season with Yamaha and he expressed his relief at simply making it to the finish line and collecting 16 valuable points after the race.

"The track was very slippery, some corners had a big change from the beginning to the end of the race," Barros explained to motogp.com. "Some corners were really, really difficult so I just tried to use my experience, you know, I couldn't follow Max and Sete – I saw at the beginning that these guys were pushing too hard.

"I almost crashed a few times so I said ‘I can't fall down'. So I just tried to keep my pace, tried to follow Carlos and Valentino and kept my rhythm. I came stronger at the end of the race when everybody else began to go slow.

"I saw I had a gap over Valentino so just tried to improve and make sure I finished the race in that position and I'm quite happy with my first podium.
