Jenkner relief at highside drama

Steve Jenkner admitted he was lucky to finish the race at Jerez last week, never mind finish on the podium, after two unbelievable saves from sure-fire highside crashes in the torrentially wet conditions.

Jenkner ran off-track early in the race when battling for a podium position but fought his way back through the field for a second time to battle with Hector Barberá, miraculously emerging unscathed from a second heart-stopping excursion onto the grass to clinch second place in a race won by his team-mate Marco Simoncelli.

This was for sure a difficult race I had two highsides but I was able to catch the bike but it was really hard to recover the gap and I had to take off some preload from the bike because it was too hard, commented Jenkner.

I am really happy to finish because after the rain was getting really hard and so the bike was not stable anymore also on the straight it was really difficult.
