París Saint Germain to sponsor Equipe GP de France

The Equipe GP de France team have announced that they will be supported by a series of new sponsors at their home Grand Prix at Le Mans this weekend. The París Saint Germain football team will be lending their colours to the quarter-litre Aprilia machines of former 125cc World Champion Arnaud Vincent and his team-mate Gregory Lefort, as will PlayStation, as the duo compete for honours in front of their home fans.

"Football and motorcycle racing are obviously very different sports but the objective of achieving good results and reaching shared goals is the same," commented a team spokesman, with reference to a deal which was aided by the long standing friendship between French Grand Prix promoter Claude Michy and PSG president Francis Graille.

The deal is an added boost for the team, who last weekend celebrated top ten finishes for both their riders as Vincent crossed the line eighth and Lefort ninth in the rain-hit race at Jerez.

The Equipe de France are not the only team in the paddock with football connections. Seedorf Racing are owned by top Dutch international Clarence Seedorf, who began his relationship with the 125cc outfit when he played for Real Madrid. The other club in the capital Athletico acted as team sponsors when the squad competed in the Spanish Championship and made several appearances at Grand Prix level with Alvaro Bautista as a wildcard.
