Dovizioso in shape to repeat Le Mans pole

Andrea Dovizioso took his first step towards repeating the pole position he set at Le Mans last season by provisionally clinching the front slot on the grid for Sunday's 125cc race. The series leader, who had also gone quickest in the morning session, made the most of the grippy new surface at the Bugatti circuit to smash his Honda predecessor Dani Pedrosa's pole record by almost a second, clocking a time of 1'42.887 to hold off the challenge of resurgent Spanish youngster Jorge Lorenzo, second quickest on the Derbi.

The teenage pair are joined on the provisional front row by veteran Japanese rider Youichi Ui, the only rider in the class to have previously scored victory at this circuit, and Hector Barbera.

Roberto Locatelli emerged unscathed from a crash midway through the session to post the fifth quickest time after colliding with another rider and dropping his Aprilia in the middle of the chicane, also causing Lukas Pesek to crash.

Pesek was joined in the medical centre by Casey Stoner, who lowsided his KTM at high speed at the end of the session as he pushed to improve on ninth place.

With Stoner unable to make an impression on the provisional second row, Locatelli is joined by Marco Simoncelli, Pablo Nieto and Simone Corsi.
