Porto: "The pressure is on De Puniet"

Sebastian Porto has turned up the heat on 250cc World Championship leader Randy De Puniet, claiming the pressure is on the Frenchman as he looks to defend his series advantage in front of his home crowd at Le Mans this weekend. Porto lies joint third in the championship with Fonsi Nieto and Dani Pedrosa, fifteen points behind Aprilia colleague De Puniet and seven points adrift of Roby Rolfo in second place, but says he is confident of taking his first victory of the season if luck is on his side this weekend.

"This is a special race for De Puniet and the pressure will be on him," commented the Argentinean. "I think I can take advantage of that and make it work in my favour. I am fifteen points behind De Puniet but it's a long season and the goal is to score good points at every round.

"Le Mans is quite a different circuit, with relatively slow corners and long straights which should benefit the top speed of the Aprilia. I don't think there will be much difference in lap times because there are no fast corners where you can really make up time, but I like it here and I'm confident I can do well.

"The only thing missing from the last two Grand Prix has been the ending – especially in Jerez when I dominated practice on both days and set a new pole record only for it to rain on race day. Hopefully the weather will be on our side here but we are relaxed in that we know the bike is working well and, if the conditions are good, we will be up there fighting for victory."
