Byrne ruled out with hand injury

Shane Byrne has been ruled out of the Grand Prix Polini de France after finally conceding defeat to the broken bone in his right hand which he sustained in a crash at the second round of the season at Jerez two weeks ago.

The British Superbike Champion rode yesterday but this morning decided the lack of strength in the fractured bone could cause him to crash his Aprilia again and risk a more serious injury.

"I'm only into doing things if I can do them 100% and unfortunately I only had my cast cut off on Thursday and it's just not up to strength yet," explained Byrne, who had qualified 20th on the provisional grid. "It's okay riding around at 80% when the bike isn't doing anything crazy but as soon as I push it and it gets out of shape, I just can't get it back."

"I had a big moment at the end of the straight yesterday when I couldn't get it to turn into the fast right and it's just not worth risking it. We've got the Italian Grand Prix in two weeks time and I would rather make sure I am completely fit for that. This race just came a bit too soon for me but I'll be perfect for Mugello."
