Edwards chose wrong tyre

Colin Edwards has blamed a bad tyre choice for his failure to improve on his provisional pole time from Friday's qualifying session, a mistake which cost him four places on the starting grid as his team-mate Sete Gibernau snatched pole.

Fifth place matches Edwards' best ever start in MotoGP, set in the opening round of this season at Welkom, and the Former World Superbike Champion says he cannot afford any similar mistakes today is he is to race with the frontrunners. "We chose a tyre for the race and we made a mistake because the temperature was different from yesterday – some eight degrees hotter and I couldn't better my time.

"We didn't realise straight away and spent 45 minutes on those tyres. We changed, but it was too late. In the race we will see what happens.

"My rhythm was perfect, now we just have to choose the right tyre."
