Gibernau makes strides in FP2

Sete Gibernau rose to the top of the time sheets in Saturday morning's free practice session despite fighting feverish temperatures and a bad cold. After the first qualifying practice had been dominated by American riders Colin Edwards and Nicky Hayden, this morning it was time for Spanish superiority as Gibernau and Carlos Checa headed the time sheets.

In a clear demonstration of the intense competition in the MotoGP class at the French circuit, provisional pole holder Edwards was today fifth fastest behind Max Biaggi and Valentino Rossi, whilst Hayden could only manage the ninth quickest time behind Alex Barros, Kenny Roberts and Makoto Tamada.

In the 250cc class Sebastian Porto was again dominant, shaving almost half a second off his provisional pole time to hold off a strong challenge from Dani Pedrosa and Randy De Puniet.

Hector Barbera hit form in the 125cc session, also going under the provisional pole time held by Andrea Dovizioso to hold off the Italian for the quickest time of the day so far.
