Work still to do for Elías despite podium

Toni Elías stepped onto the podium for the first time this season in the Grand Prix Polini de France last week to provide a welcome boost to a disappointing start to the campaign.

Elias ended last season in third place in the championship but, after taking eighth place in the opening round at Welkom and a lowly twelfth in the rain at his home race in Jerez, the Barcelona youngster admitted it was only a small step towards resolving the problems he has had since switching from the Aprilia to the Honda in the winter.

"I am happy – third place is not where I want to be but I have to be satisfied," commented the Spaniard after the race.

"I was lucky in that I was able take advantage of Porto's crash but I also had to push hard to defend my position under pressure from several riders, particularly Aoyama, and this third place is a result of that effort.

"In any case, we are still in a difficult position and we have to work hard to find a good set-up which will allow me to ride the bike as I want. Then the results will start to come and I will be up there on a regular basis.

"It was a really difficult weekend for us so a podium finish is very welcome, but I have to keep working, keep fighting and hope to be back at the front over the next few races."
