Rutter on BSB pole at Mondello Park

Michael Rutter will start from pole in the fifth round of the British Superbike Championship at Mondello Park in Ireland after holding off the challenge of series leader John Reynolds.

Reynolds had led for most of today´s qualifying sessions, setting a mark 1.5 seconds faster than the current lap record he already holds, but in the dying seconds Rutter set a fastest lap of 1:39.548 to snatch top spot. Dean Thomas and Scott Smart complete the front row.

Today´s qualifying sessions took place in glorious sunshine and the forecast is for bright weather on race day. Superbike racing starts at 12:15pm tomorrow at the circuit just outside Dublin. A large crowd of nearly 20,000 visited the circuit for its BSB debut and that is expected to rise to around 30,000 this weekend.
