Checa hoping to stay on the up

Carlos Checa picked up the 22nd premier-class podium of his MotoGP career at Le Mans to end a top three drought which had extended for over a season. It was Checa's longest absence from the rostrum since his debut campaign in 1996 and the relieved Spaniard admitted that it was not the sort of record that he would wish to repeat.

"I am very satisfied – it's nice to be back on the podium after all this time," smiled Checa. "It seemed like it might never happen but there has been a lot of good work done this year and we have made big improvements since last year. Yamaha have worked hard and that has given me the chance to get back here and achieve a top result."

"This should open up the season for me to achieve similar results and even go one better. If we can keep working in the same way I think we'll get there in the end. I have to thank my team for all the help and support thy have given me and I hope to pay them pack with more performances like this one."
