De Puniet turns sights to victory

Randy De Puniet admitted he is now desperate to clinch his first victory of the season after taking his third second place finish from three races in his home Grand Prix at Le Mans. The Frenchman leads the championship by ten points but is wary of the emerging threat of Honda rider Dani Pedrosa and admits he would like nothing more to get back to winning ways on Aprilia territory at Mugello.

"Le Mans was a good race for me, apart from the fact that Dani (Pedrosa) got closer to me in the standings," commented De Puniet, who is 26 points clear of third placed Fonsi Nieto.

"He ran a great race, he escaped from the start and I couldn't follow him because I had a slight technical problem but I am satisfied with my race and with another good points haul.

"In general the weekend wasn't so bad, also for the fact that some riders didn't finish, but I have to step up my game if I want to win.

"I try and win every race but in each round so far there has been somebody out there faster than me. We will have to see if I can manage it at Mugello, which is a circuit that I really like."
