Poggiali admits title defence difficulties

With a meagre thirteen points from the first three races, and two consecutive ‘DNFs' in Jerez and Le Mans, Manuel Poggiali admits that a successful defence of the 250cc World Championship title he earned last season is looking increasingly unlikely.

The San Marino rider heads for his ‘home' race in Italy next week in desperate need of a positive result and admits he would like nothing more than to repeat his victory there last season as he aims to step on the podium for the first time in 2004.

"It's sure difficult to defend this title, but every season is difficult, because in the World Championships nothing is ever easy," says Poggiali. "Sure I like Mugello - it's one of my favourite tracks. I won last year and I have good possibilities to make a good result also this year."
