Alex Barros admits mounting pressure

Alex Barros admits the pressure is growing for him to produce the results worthy of his status as an official HRC rider in 2004. The Brazilian veteran returned to Honda after a season with Yamaha and joined the full factory Repsol Honda squad with one goal in mind – to win the World Championship. However, things have not gone his way in the first three races and Barros finds himself behind satellite riders Sete Gibernau and Max Biaggi in the rider standings.

"Honda and Repsol did not sign a contract for me to ride second," concedes Barros, who scored his only podium of the season so far in the wet at Jerez. "I know I have this pressure now, but more than the factory it's the rider who makes this pressure himself and this is normal.

"It's not anything special, it's the normal way, it was the same with Yamaha. I was contracted to win the championship. I know I have a really good potential, the chances are good, the machine's really good… I need to concentrate to improve a little my riding conditions, improve the set-up and we can be a little bit more at the front."
