Carchano heads to Italy on CEV high

Jordi Carchano returns to 125cc World Championship action at Mugello this weekend riding high on confidence after making the most of the slight break in Grand Prix action to take victory in the first round of the CEV Spanish Championship at Catalunya.

Starting from pole position, the Aprilia rider was hotly tipped for victory at his home circuit after impressing in qualifying, but a stall on the grid sent him to the back of the pack after taking evasive action. Nevertheless he quickly made up positions, and joined the lead duo of Ruben Catalan(9) and young Argentine Fabricio Perren(37).

The trio diced for position until Matteoni Racing's Carchano broke free towards the end and claimed his first victory in the series, ahead of Perren (2nd) and Catalan (3rd).
