Sete Gibernau insists he has not allowed himself to start thinking about the MotoGP World Championship title despite leading the rider standings by ten points after three rounds. The Spaniard, who finished runner-up to Valentino Rossi last year, takes on the current World Champion in his own backyard this weekend and admits that he will be up against it as Rossi's fellow Italians, Max Biaggi, Loris Capirossi and Marco Melandri, also push for glory.

"It's very early to be thinking about the championship," commented Gibernau. "I'm preparing for the Italian Grand Prix with the same ambition as any other race.

"I think that we still have a lot of room for improvement. It will definitely be a tough race because the Italians are racing in front of their fans and they have a special motivation.

"Also, Mugello isn't a circuit that I particularly like – I picked up my worst result of the season here last year – but my only aim is to go out and win. It would be a nice gift for my Italian mechanics and for the team."
