After a disappointing start to the new season, the Ducati Marlboro Team took drastic measures ahead of their home race, bringing two units of the 2003 version Desmosedici machines for riders Loris Capirossi and Troy Bayliss to Mugello.

After a positive first parallel test with the old and new machines at Le Mans two weeks ago, the Italian and the Australian continued evaluating the pros and cons of each bike on Friday and made significant progress – Capirossi improving on Valentino Rossi's pole position time from last year despite finding himself down in tenth on the provisional grid.

In the latest in a series of exclusive technical features, Ducati's VIP two-seat rider Randy Mamola takes us inside the famous red garage for the latest news on the eve of final qualifying, unveiling their plans for tomorrow and discussing the virtues of the GP3 and GP4 machines.
