Porto blames bike for crash

Sebastian Porto blamed his factory Aprilia for his spectacular crash in the morning free practice for the 250cc Gran Premio Cinzano d'Italia this morning, saying that he was unsure of the exact cause of the fall but insisting he wasn't at fault. Porto escaped largely unhurt from the crash but took a nasty knock in the ribs which prevented him from improving on his provisional pole time in the afternoon.

"It was a tough day for me because I had a bad crash coming on to the straight this morning," said Porto, who starts from pole in any case as none of the other riders managed to better his time.

"I don't know how it happened but something went wrong with the bike and it sent me flying. I am in quite a lot of pain because I got a bad knock in the ribs and my body is all bruised.

"I went out for a few laps in the afternoon and felt comfortable. I am happy because the bike worked well all afternoon and my only hope is to recover physically in time for tomorrow.

"This is a good circuit for us and the best for the Aprilia. My objective tomorrow is to win the race but we'll wait and see what happens."
