In the 250cc class Sebastian Porto also unable to improve on his provisional pole time but, like Gibernau in MotoGP, hung on to top spot by a comfortable margin.

Porto was actually third fastest today behind Dani Pedrosa, who edged to within 0.288 seconds of the Argentinean's pole time, and series leader Randy De Puniet, who line up in second and third place on the grid respectively. Toni Elias was fourth fastest today and starts from the outside of the front row in the same position.

San Marino rider Alex De Angelis mounted a last lap attack for a first ever 250cc front row position at his ‘home' race but missed out by just 0.008 seconds and heads up the second row from compatriot and World Champion Manuel Poggiali plus local pair Franco Battaini and Roberto Rolfo.
