Mick Doohan: "One of the best races for a long, long time"

Mick Doohan was all smiles after being one of the record 85,000 crowd to witness an epic MotoGP battle at Mugello on Sunday. The former five-time World Champion enjoyed the two-part battle, which ended with his former Honda protégé Valentino Rossi taking his second win for Yamaha, as much as anybody and labelled it as "one of the best races without a doubt for a long, long time."

"Every race they say it's the best there's been but that, definitely, the amount of passing in the first part of the race…" grinned the Australian. "Then in the second part of the race everyone went back to slick tyres and it started to rain just before the start of the race so there was a couple of mad people running at the front – people who were just braver than the others. As it started to dry out the cream rose to the top again I guess!

"It was a great race for a spectator really, the people watching at home, and it makes other forms of motorsport look fairly second rate. "
