Locatelli and Stoner close on Dovizioso

Andrea Dovizioso saw his 125cc World Championship lead whittled down to just three points after finishing fourth in his home race at Mugello last Sunday and knows that he must overturn the form books if he is to maintain any sort of advantage at the Gran Premi Gauloises de Catalunya this weekend.

The Italian youngster has failed to finish from two starts at the Spanish track whilst Roberto Locatelli, who lurks dangerously in second place after a famous victory in his home round, had his best result of a torrid season with KTM there last year and qualified on pole twice during his title-winning first stint with Aprilia.

Casey Stoner also looked back to his best form in Italy as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury sustained in round two at Le Mans. The young Australian, who lies third in the championship after a sensational start as Locatelli's replacement at KTM, also crashed out at Catalunya last year but enjoyed a storming ride in 2002, when he went from 13th on the grid to 6th in only his fifth start on the 250cc Aprilia.

As in the MotoGP and 250cc classes, a host of Spanish riders will be looking to impress in the 125cc race, in particular Hector Barbera, who took his second podium of the season in Italy and lies fourth in the championship as he looks to build on third overall last season.
