Locatelli glad to be back

When Roberto Locatelli celebrated his fifth victory of the season and his World Championship title at Motegi in October 2000, it was difficult to imagine that he would wait another three and a half years before returning to the top step of the podium. After two years of mediocrity in the 250cc class followed by a disastrous return to 125cc racing with KTM, Locatelli looked as though he may be entering the twilight of his career.

However, a return to Aprilia with the team run by old friend and sparring partner Lucio Cecchinello sparked a revival for ‘Loca', who took two second places from the opening three races before Sunday's emotional victory at his home track.

Locatelli spoke exclusively to motogp.com immediately after the race as he tried to comprehend the emotion and importance of his victory.

"For me it's a long time that I don't go on the podium and this has changed my career," said the 29 year old. "For a long time I not only don't have the results, I also have many problems. This result is for Carerra and for Lucio Cecchinello because this was a work together with the squad."
