Suzuki get new engine for Catalunya

Team Suzuki have received delivery of the new spec engine for their GSV-R machine which had not been expected to arrive until Assen. The modified motor has a revised firing pattern which is reported to improve throttle response and mid-range performance and reduce engine braking, making for a more ‘user-friendly' machine.

The engine gave positive results in a shakedown test at Jerez after the Spanish Grand Prix last month and Team Manager Garry Taylor said that his riders were ready to take full advantage, with John Hopkins hoping to rejoin Kenny Roberts after missing out at Mugello with a broken thumb.

"Our situation has already improved this season compared to last and we have more improvements coming from the factory for the next race that performed very promisingly when we tested after the Spanish Grand Prix," commented Taylor.

"There is no doubt in any of our minds that Kenny and John are ready to grab hold of any technical improvements and make the absolute most of them. We're all looking forward to next weekend."

Hopkins and Roberts will be joined this weekend by test rider Gregorio Lavilla, who rides as a wildcard just a week after scoring a podium finish in the British Superbike race at Thruxton.
