Another slip-up for Poggiali

Another slip-up for Poggiali

Manuel Poggialis disastrous start to his 250cc World Championship defence continued at the Gran Premio Gauloises de Catalunya on Sunday, when he crashed out with just nine laps remaining, taking last years runner-up Roby Rolfo with him to the gravel trap. Poggiali has scored just one podium so far this season, when Randy De Puniet broke down and handed him third place on the last lap at Mugello, and lies eleventh in the championship with 29 points after five rounds.

However, despite his latest setback, the San Marino rider remained philosophical: These things can happen in racing, commented Poggiali, who returned to the track at Catalunya for a day of tests on Monday. Im not happy but this is what happens when you push beyond the limit to try and get a good result.

Rolfo initially seemed infuriated by the incident but quickly forgave his Aprilia rival. It was just a shame, commented the Honda man. I was having a good race, trying to escape from the group I was in from the start of the race.

I was just tipping the bike into the corner and the next thing I knew I was on the floor. Manuel was very sporting and he apologised. He made a mistake on the brakes and he hit me but that can happen in a race situation. I like the fact that he said sorry straight away.
