Lorenzo frustrated by last lap confusion

Jorge Lorenzo revealed his disappointment at failing to provide a perfect end to the weekend for 700 Derbi employees, invited by the Spanish factory bosses to watch the team in action from a specially reserved section of the main grandstand at the Gran Premi Gauloises de Catalunya on Sunday.

Lorenzo started from pole position and recovered from a poor start to contest the lead until the final lap, when he missed his pit board and thought he still had an extra lap to make his move for victory.

"I thought there was another lap left," explained the teenager, who finished the race in fifth place. "There were so many boards on the pit wall that I couldn't see which one was mine, so I looked on the electronic scoreboard and it said two laps to go. I was just planning a last lap attack when I saw the chequered flag.

"I'm really disappointed for myself, but also for everybody from Derbi who came to watch me here. I wanted to celebrate victory with them."
