Xaus keeping focused after swift progress

Ruben Xaus boosted his growing reputation in MotoGP with another excellent display at Catalunya on Sunday, clinching sixth place and finishing as the top Ducati in his home race.

The former World Superbike rider took his second consecutive top six finish, having led the race on his way to fifth at Mugello seven days previously, and looks set to walk the Rookie of the Year award after relatively modest, if impressive, beginnings for fellow debutantes Shane Byrne, Alex Hofmann, Kurtis Roberts and Michel Fabrizio.

Xaus reflected modestly on his weekend after a brief test at Catalunya on Monday morning. "Well, it wasn't bad," commented the Spaniard understatedly. "I just need to grow up and gather experience, remain calm, quiet and don't make mistakes as I have in the past and just be concentrated, because sometimes I lose my way."
