Biaggi cites chatter problems

Max Biaggi revealed that chatter problems on the rear end of his Honda RC211V were the reason for his disappointing performance in the Gran Premi Gauloises de Catalunya. The Italian had looked in perfect shape for Sunday's race after matching the consistency of frontrunners Sete Gibernau and Valentino Rossi during qualifying, but he struggled to eighth place after mysteriously losing over a second of his lap times on race tyres.

"I am so disappointed, it's normal, it's understandable, because I was ready to make a good result," explained Biaggi, who lost vital ground on Gibernau and Rossi at the top of the championship, trailing the Spanish leader by 26 points.

"I had planned every detail - above all the second part of the race. During the warm-up I even fitted a used rear tyre in order to be ready for the final few laps. I got a good start after the red light and in the first turn I was third, but I soon realised that all the good work we had done during the weekend was going to be wasted.

"It started to chatter so strongly that it was impossible to ride. I had to close the gas into the corners and I was so slow, so slow... Soon after the race my technicians told me they had never seen a chatter so strong recorded by the telemetry and that the cause was the rear tyre.

"For sure that doesn't help us for the championship classification, but we have to forget it as soon as possible and look forward. There are twelve races to the end of the season and there is no reason to give up. I totally trust in Michelin and in the job they do - it was just unlucky."
