Stoner troubled by lack of speed

Casey Stoner revealed his frustration after missing on a podium finish at Catalunya and conceding vital ground to title rivals Andrea Dovizioso and Hector Barberá in the championship. Stoner crossed the line in fourth place after visibly struggling to keep pace with the factory Honda and Aprilia riders down the long Spanish straight but added that he was confident the problem would be addressed by KTM before the next race at Assen.

"I'm very disappointed – I thought I could win the race," lamented Stoner, who dropped to fourth in the championship despite closing in on Roberto Locatelli, with Barberá's win moving him ahead of the Australian and Dovizioso stretching his series lead with second place.

"Everything had gone a lot better than the rest of the season so far, all the practice sessions went quite well. We made a big change to the chassis which improved things a lot but in the race I was struggling for speed, which normally is the least of our worries, so I am a little disappointed.

"In any case I'm confident for Assen. Normally we don't have any problems with the engine so I think it might have just been a jetting mishap. Hopefully the engine will be there and I think now we've made this step forward with the chassis we should be alright for the rest of the season.

"Barberá's jumped ahead of me in the championship now but I don't really mind about that, I'm taking each race at a time. It's just a shame because in the warm-up I was quick and I felt good in the race. I was all over the back of them, but I just didn't have the speed to get past them on the brakes."
