Gibernau happy with tyre test

An investigation into Sete Gibernau's rear tyre problems during his home race at Catalunya last Sunday wielded positive results during a one-day test at the Spanish track on Monday. Gibernau complained after the race that Valentino Rossi was able to use a softer tyre than him due to the fact that the Yamaha had less horsepower and as such was less aggressive on the rear than the Honda, a dilemma he hopes will not cause further problems over the remaining eleven races.

"It was basically just a tyre test for Michelin, who wanted to try out a few different solutions," commented Gibernau, who completed 44 laps at the test with a best time of 1'44.2. "At the same time it gave the team an opportunity to have a look at a couple of things after the race. We did a half-distance endurance test and it went well.

"We're just trying to get the most out of what we've got. There will be certain circuits where we suffer more and others where we suffer less – hopefully Assen won't be as critical."
