Abe disappointed with season start

Norick Abe returned to the full time MotoGP World Championship circus in 2004 as part of the Fortuna Gauloises Tech3 squad but admits his season has not got off to the start he was hoping for. After five races his best result is a seventh place at Italy two weeks ago and he currently lies ninth in the championship.

"Nothing has really gone well ever since preseason," lamented the Japanese rider after his latest disappointment at Catalunya, when he finished ninth. "We are just not finding the right settings to get good grip on the front or the rear and I'm finding it tough.

"Races usually go better for me than testing or qualifying but the rear was sliding so much here that I couldn't push to the limit. When I got past the riders who were slower than me, I was able to ride a good pace under difficult track conditions.

"It is important to have scored points again, but it is absolutely necessary that I qualify better over the next few races to make more progress. I thought I could do much better here but it wasn't possible and I feel very disappointed."
