Roberts takes dry line in FP2

Kenny Roberts took advantage of a brief dry spell during the second free practice for the Gauloises TT Assen to set the quickest time of the session just moments before another heavy downpour which forced several riders to crash. Max Biaggi and Alex Barros were two of the men who went down in the worsening conditions, after a light morning drizzle developed into thick rain.

The conditions suited 250cc wet specialists Sylvain Guintoli, Anthony West and Arnaud Vincent, who set the three fastest times in the quarter-litre class and are all on the provisional front row after yesterday's first qualifying.

Hector Barberá also showed his prowess in the wet, the 125cc provisional pole holder again the quickest man in this morning's practice ahead of team-mate Alvaro Bautista and last year's winner Steve Jenkner.

Despite the bad weather this morning, the sun began to break through at lunchtime, providing hope of dry final qualifying sessions in the afternoon.
