Porto closes in on title chase

Sebastian Porto took his second victory of the campaign and the third of his career in the 250cc class to close in on championship pacesetters Randy De Puniet and Dani Pedrosa. The Argentinean controlled the race pace with a masterful display, leading the way from pole position before increasing his rhythm in the final stages and escaping the chasing pack.

Pedrosa got a nightmare start from second on the grid and was two places from the back when he finally got going, launching a remarkable recovery which saw him scythe through the field and chase Porto for victory over the final laps.

Second place for the Spaniard means he now trails Randy De Puniet by just one point in the championship after the Frenchman finished fourth, with Toni Elias completing the podium for the second race in succession.

Alex De Angelis picked up fifth place to continue his excellent adaptation to the quarter-litre class, whilst privateer Anthony West overcame factory riders Manuel Poggiali, Fonsi Nieto and Roby Rolfo to seal a superb sixth at the circuit where he took his only Grand Prix victory in the wet a year ago.
