Barros reveals gear shifter problem

Alex Barros haas revealed that a problem with his gear shifter caused him to crash in the MotoGP race at Assen on Saturday.

The Brazilian had made a storming run from the pack to challenge Sete Gibernau and Valentino Rossi for the lead, but crashed spectacularly out of second place at the end of the straight when he accidentally shifted down to first gear and locked up the rear end of the Honda RC211V under heavy engine braking.

Barros explained that he will now work with the team to discover exactly why the gearbox shifted down so easily and plans to have the shift lever position adjusted to ensure that the problem doesnt occur again.
