Hopkins confident of breaking top five

John Hopkins says he is confident of a top five finish before the end of the season after another positive weekend at Assen. The Suzuki rider made a good start from tenth on the grid but suffered from early tyre wear and battled to finish in the points – a performance he says bodes well for the future if Bridgestone can continue with their rapid tyre development programme.

"The first five laps were great, you know, I held up right amongst the lead group and I was fighting my way through it but about lap six the tyres dropped off a bit," explained Hopkins. "From there it was just kind of a downhill spiral.

"We need a little bit more power but Suzuki have made tons of improvements. We've clearly shown that the bike is competitive, Bridgestone is working really hard and I'm positive that they're going to be able to make some great changes in the future.

"We were looking for a top five finish here but… from Barcelona to here the tyres have improved a great deal so if that ladder can continue you'll see a top five finish real soon."
