Tamada hoping for Rio podium repeat

Makoto Tamada says he is hopeful of returning to the front of the MotoGP pack at the Cinzano Rio Grand Prix this weekend, having scored his only podium to date at the Nelson Piquet circuit last season. Tamada has been on good form this year despite a series of tyre problems and the Japanese rider believes that his performance at Mugello, when he fought for the lead with Valentino Rossi and Sete Gibernau, as well as his past record at Rio, bode well for this Sunday.

"In Rio last year I ended up on the podium for the first time so, naturally, I've got some good memories of this Grand Prix," commented Tamada on his way to Brazil today.

"But it's not just for that reason that I'm happy to go there. I like the track layout, it's very dynamic and has a long straight like the one in Mugello. I want to be at the front and fight for the top positions and I think that in Brazil we have the chance to meet our objectives."
